Before the Shadowhunters TV Show: A Memoir

I normally don't speak out of annoyance or anger but let me tell you one thing. If you ruin my friends good time, I will truly end your suffering. This sounds scary considering the "friend" I'm speaking of is a little series of books...

Cassandra Clare, the author of the Mortal Instruments series, the Infernal Devices trilogy, and the soon to come Dark Artifices series, is probably one of my favorite authors of ALL time. I assure you, I have tried to stray from her by hitting young adult contemporary and strict fantasy but I always find my way back to Clare. She has sold millions of copies, achieved an insane amount of awards but she continues to write about the lovely Shadowhunters and Co. She has reached such high success since I was first introduced to the City of Bones in 2009 thanks to a wonderfully intriguing soul, my high school librarian. But things have also changed since then.

In 2013, a film came out based on the first book. I could not sit still the day it came out, I was head over heels. I convinced one of my friends it was worth it to not see it on a $5 Tuesday night and see it THAT Friday night ASAP. That friend later stole my City of Bones book and never talked to me again...ANYWAY, the point of this begrudgingly awful story is that I hated it. Horrendous. If I could take back the two and a half times I have accidently thought I wanted to rewatch that film since then, I would gladly exchange my first born for that opportunity.

Now, I am not a rude person. I still say "ooop" and "sorry sorr Y SORR YSORRY" anytime I accidently talk over someone, bump an inanimate object, or forget to say thank you??? But this film? The end of my poor bookish soul. Jamie Campbell Bower could still get it though...

So when they announced a tv show, I thought "here we go again..." So since the show's been filmed and I see photos of the cast and their behind the scenes shenanigans, I've kept my mouth shut. I didn't want to get ahead of myself and throw myself down another well of lies and deceit. And now, I have the evidence to support my decision to not walk headlong into a knife: The teaser trailer from the shows SNAPCHAT (okay, really? why)

To be fair, its a younger crowd they are aiming this towards so I sort of understand why it looks like a live-action American Dragon: Jake Long. I understand why the effects look like a child water colored to his heart's content. I UNDERSTAND why it's not dark and brooding and mysterious (the movie did a great job on that, mainly broody moody toodies).

It's fine, watch it if you please. But I'm warning you now, don't get attached. Cancelations usually are announced halfway through the season, just so you're aware.

(Watch, one of these losers wins an Emmy lol...Jace 4 lyfe tbh)

still reading...

Starting this book nearly two months ago, I thought I had more patience? Diana Gabaldon is a weaver of magic in simple words and I'm in utter awe everytime I open Outlander.

Still, I push through fine details and large paragraphs. I suppose I'm just trying to be the adult I will inevitably become? This month, I also started glancing into classic I thought id enjoy. Alice In Wonderland, Wuthering Heights and even Stephen King to get spooky feels. I'm mainly a big YA lover but I'm trying to broaden my horizons.

October is pretty much my favorite month of the year so I have plenty of books to cozily get through next to a huge cup of coffee. I have started the Percy Jackson series and I love it! To see books I am currently reading and my previously read books, check out my Goodreads! I stay up to date on that more than anything when it comes to my bibliophilic tendencies ;)

Awesome Artist: Hippo Campus

"Girl, I swear, I've never seen you look so alive." - Souls, Hippo Campus

Let me tell you, I have not put down the Bashful Creatures EP since Saturday? I am absolutely in love with this groovy, lovely quartet. Just wow!

I saw the Saint Paul-based group at Chipotle Cultivate in Loring Park on Saturday August 22nd and it will be a day forever in my heart. Considering that was the only Minnesota show they have on their upcoming tour, I am so excited I witnessed the talent and love they have for their fans.

Beans, Turntan, Stitches, and Espo (all previously acquired nicknames) are recent art school graduates and have been together a relatively short time. They are all under 21 but are killing it on the festival scene. Having already performed at Lollapalooza this year, they are currently in the UK doing shows at Leeds and Reading.

I am insanely happy to have snapped this instagram photo as everyone was jostling and screaming. I do remember at one point shouting "Beans, I fucking love you!" at the top of my lungs while they were tuning for the next song and the crowd was finally silent. It was a thrill that I was stared down by 50 people for and yelled "same" at by several girls. Espo, the bass player, favorited my tweet to him a few days ago and I about died. I'm glad he misses me too! I sadly did not have the guts to go up and introduce myself because they seemed busy and tired after the show :(

My current favorite song of there's is South which is a single off their new EP in October. Here's another of Hippo Campus' up-and-coming songs called Dollar Bill which they performed for a radio station:

I found this band through Bandcamp looking for new music to put on one of my videos last year. I found Little Grace and fell in love. Here's the video I made for a day I spent with Adrienne, who also went to Hippo Campus' show with me! They are nostalgia and love to me:

Thank you for checking out my blog! Don't forget to hit up Hippo Campus' website and social media (insta, tweets) when you get the chance!

Here's some new info and things about my life that you may or may not care about:

I have joined Goodreads! It's so great and holds my ever growing TBR list and books I own and what I'm reading/how far into said book I am. I also inevitably joined a few book clubs like my local YA book club and this really cool YA club that I just enjoy and have a few new friends in. It's just wow! Check it out!

I am also so sad to say I am taking back what I said in my August TBR. I thought up that list half way through the first Mara Dyer book and by the end, I honestly wasn't interested. The writing got confusing sometimes and nothing was straight forward so I gave that up two pages into the second book :( I have been working on my repertoire of manga and YA though! Fairy Tail, Soul Eater, Sarah J. Maas and Diana Gabaldon have been keeping me company.

Plus, I am ditching my "book lists" and going to straight reviews on new books and books that were intriguing and interesting. I won't be doing ALL the books I read (oh, that would be a novel in itself) but if you'd like me to review a book, I can! I do have two book lists left to type out that I've written in my little composition notebook and have taken pictures for so those will be up soon!

On the note of films, I've literally watched a single Harry Potter film since my last Film Friday. That's it. One film. I'm a little salty about the lack of time I have been giving myself for films because I really wanted to go see Me and Earl and The Dying Girl (which I highly disliked in book form, REALLY) while it was still in theaters and I never went? I'll push myself to watch more but this weekend I have a festival to go see and next weekend I have another concert to go to. During the week I work two jobs and I am pretty sure I am a walking dead man, let's be real. I'll try!

I have also updated my twitter and instagram user names to just spice it up a bit. Twitter is here and instagram is here!

All the love x Nat

TBR: August 2015

This list is much shorter than the last and I'm honestly just trying to gauge what is realistic for me? I'm really behind on my July TBR thanks to throwing myself back into the tv shows The Vampire Diaries and The Office. I've never watched the entirety of The Office, only one episode here or there, but I'm entirely in love with it! Remember to stay up to date on my blog through Bloglovin where I keep up to date on my followers and their blogs :)

August TBR:

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
I watched the movie not knowing how long it actually was and completely loved the concept but it was just a little off? So I opted to check out the book.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Evolution of Mara Dyer and The Retribution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
The first book was a little interesting and there's still some things unanswered so I'll check out the rest of the series despite my skeptical thoughts on whether this series is supernatural or not? It's complicated.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Wow, there was a lot of yelling in this post. I'll just go lay down with a book for a while...

New month, new tunes. Speaking of new, One Direction released their new single from the quartet DAYS after I saw them in concert and I'm a little bitter sprinkled with proud. I actually didn't get great pictures due to lack of stable hands and screaming so all I have is this instagram photo. Believe me, I am only mildly proud of this. sigh

Moving on, here's the playlist:

Cool For The Summer by Demi Lovato
Suicide Saturday by Hippo Campus

Stay Low by Ryn Weaver
I've Got You by McFly

I Always Knew by The Vaccines
Throw Shade by Cruisr
Quesadilla by Walk The Moon
Drag Me Down by One Direction

Also, I saw the wonderful Ryn Weaver last week in Minneapolis and she was lovely before the show, during and after. I gave her my crystal necklace because she said someone had stolen hers from her. I hope she adores it as much as I did :) In August, I will be seeing Walk The Moon and Hippo Campus live! I'm so incredibly pumped and you'll hear more from me!

Film Friday // 4

Remember to check out my tags on tumblr to see what movies I really enjoy and have found wonderful edits and gifsets for! I love different forms of expression and people can find it in a tiny looped and professionally colored GIF and I love it.

Here are the films I've watched the past four weeks:

06.21.15 - 07.17.15

The Boondock Saints
Narnia: Prince Caspian
Would You Rather
If I Had Wings
Grandma's Boy
10 Things I Hate About You (x2)
and then that time I fell in a Thomas Mann rut because I couldn't find Me + Earl + The Dying Girl online...
Barely Lethal
Beautiful Creatures
Project X
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters
Magic Mike XXL
Atlantis: The Lost Empire

I am almost certain I've been cutting back on movies due to my ever growing need of books...It's a never ending circle of self destruction to be really honest.

Book List // 2

If I Stay by Gayle Forman

As soon as I finished this book, I went to watch the movie. I loved both! The story is about a girl going into a coma and she somehow can "walk" around the hospital and see family, friends and her inexplicably wonderful boyfriend. But she has to make an important decision on whether she wants to stay or not. This made me cry to be honest! It is in first person but it's in the head of a very intelligent young girl so I was thrilled.

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I still haven't finished this book....I found pictures of the week I bought this book and I was so pumped but, sadly, it has been a year since then and I'm only 10% in. I accidentally found out about the ending from a fellow book lover and now I"m not to thrilled to finish? I've just lost momentum and patience with this book. The first two, Divergent and Insurgent, were awesome and I loved them but I don't really know what happened? Sorry to say that I'm not sure when I'll actually finish....I do have Game of Thrones to catch up on!

Thank you for checking out my sort-of-book-review! I have read plenty more since these and I will continue to post them as they come. I am excited to run through this year with a book schedule and to have gotten rid of my reading block. Recommend books to me too! I love YA novels and series most of all, fantasy, supernatural, young love, the whole bit! Thank you and comment, please.

Awesome Author: Maggie Stiefvater

Maggie Stiefvater has been one of my favorite authors since my early years in high school. Particularly because she portrayed werewolves, even TEEN werewolves, not as big, destructive, stereotypical, take-over-the-world, kind of beings but rather the opposite. The compassion and compressed time frames and geographical location in the Shiver series is what makes me love the books. They're not only out to kill vampires and be kings and howl at the moon, they are every bit as human as you and I. I love it! But Shiver was only the beginning.

I recently took to Maggie's recent series, The Raven Cycle, and I am unbelievably addicted to the characters, the story, the vibes! Just check out my tumblr for recent visual spoils (mind the tags....I react like a 13 year old at a One Direction concert...). The Raven Boys are boys who go to a prestigious academy but some aren't as they seem. Some are heavy dreamers, kings, ghosts and things. But these boys aren't the only supernatural beings. There are psychics and witches and death and old monarchs to dig up! I'm enthralled, obsessed ok.

But Mags is not just a writer...she draws and paints and arts to the high heavens. She is currently working on some original tarot cards for the Raven Cycle books that will be released later this year! Here is some of her work: Photos from

The tarot deck, that you can see progressively through Stiefvater's instagram: Photo from Maggie's tumblr

Maggie is very near and dear to me and anything that she writes feels like home. Her art also makes me feel small and childish in comparison. Her use of color and variety is so unique yet she has a sort of Renaissance vibe. But there's more!

Maggie also rides a really cool car! Or two...or four...Her cars are similar to the one's in the Raven Cycle series, one being a bright yellow Camaro with the Virginia licence plate "THIEF", a blue Camaro with the license Shiver and a red Camaro with the same license as the blue one. I can only find out that one of them is a 1973 but I'm pretty sure the rest are from the same era seeing as they are similar in style and body. I think she has some rally racing cars around there somewhere too? Who knows, she's awesome. Photo from her website.

Camaro/ California

I hoped you liked going through this as much as I did! I'm also very glad my high school librarian knew what I'd be into and recommended me Shiver the second week of school. She's another amazing woman! Also, I definitely have to include this blurb that i started this post out with, left it for three weeks, and then continued to write around it until eventually deleting it but it's necessary.

"idk I fucking live her. She draws, writes, rides a fucking cool car, is like the biggest fan of her own books, is hella into cool music, is just an all around genuine human ok"

Ok yeah, geeking out much?

3 Of My Current TV Shows

I ingest so much in television series, it's near disgusting. I can't pinpoint the exact moment I fell in live with long running series. Was it Charmed at age 9 when I literally pretended to be Phoebe in every aspect of my everyday child life? Was it when I started sophomore year and gave up meat and started buying more flannels because Supernatural scared me and Dean Winchester couldn't possibly own more plaid than I??? Who knows.

But, as it goes, my young adult life is filled with Netflix and Hulu Plus to the brim. I don't want to put this out there that I am a complete hermit BUT I AM A COMPLETE HERMIT. Here it goes, my tv shows I'm watching right now:

Shameless US
I started this series after seeing alot of gifsets on my dashboard and realizing that the characters were rad and I really loved the dialogue. I have come to love each and every Gallagher kid (maybe not Sammy but...) and may have even given some inappropriate nicknames to primary and secondary characters (i.e. "asshole", "trash son"). If you like distinction or to know that you aren't completely mad, you'll like this series.

Game of Thrones
Who doesn't love GoT??? I am trying to power through season 4 currently and to catch up to some of my friends who have been watching it since the beginning, every Sunday, with the same people...I'll have my life together at some point and I'll get there but for now I am buying the seasons and trying to distinguish between enough sleep and healthy sleep. I have also seen some controversial subjects on the recent season so I'm cringing my way there.

The 100
I didn't think I'd like this series as much as I do but its lovely! I enjoy the characters and the situations they go through, it's all so exciting and futuristic but rustic and homey? I'm currently near the end of the second season so I'm trying to calm down and take it slow otherwise I'll have withdrawals and Teen Wolf flashbacks....yikes.

If you ever have any questions on where to find shows online, just leave a comment and I can find it for mobile and download!

The Struggles of Being an Always-Klutz

Today, I cracked my 2nd Windows Phone screen. That's now...four smart phones I've unintentionally destroyed with the power of not paying attention. 3 iPhones and now two Nokia Lumia 1020s. I didn't even know it was possible to break Nokias anymore???

The worst part of this is that the phone is the only way I get through to the world wide web. Due to the fact that one dismal day a year and a half ago, I left my headphones in between my laptop screen and keyboard, closed it, and managed to hide it under a blanket before returning and slamming my knee down onto the waiting disaster. All I have is a shitty phone with minimal apps and an already touchy screen....hello cracks from the lower right corner, spidered right into my heart and destroying any sanity I have left after trying to save enough to fix my computer.

If I hadn't known that would eventually do this again, I wouldn't be so calm. I knew this was coming, it had to happen. I've been dropping the giant yellow thing for the past week. 13 times at least! But I also knew it would happen because, its inevitable. I am a walking train wreck.

Today, I drove my mom to the store and realized that her car has holes in it, holes that weren't there when she bought the thing. They're from me. From when I'd accidently dropped a cigarette or my friend in the passenger seat was wagging their hands around and bumped the burning death stick into the vulnerable sunshade above them
I am ridiculous.

I trip on obvious things, I smash valuable things, I say the wrong things, I forget valuable information. What am I but one giant accident after another? An expensive accident at that. I am a klutz and I don't know how to stop.

TBR: July 2015

I have a lot more to do in July (family outings, concerts, festivals) than I do any other month. I'm also super excited to get more into reading books that are true to life and to human emotions. Though I still love great fantasy books!

Here is my TBR in July:

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews
I saw the trailer for the movie for this a while ago but I was super excited when I found out it was a book! I also was super excited that my library had it available for Kindle (which is how I've been lending books lately). Greg is also me in boy form?

Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
I read the first book in the Throne of Glass series. I first heard of it from Sasha on Youtube, she runs Abookutopia and it's a great channel!

The Selection by Kiera Cass
I bought the entire set at a secondhand store for less than $2 and I about cried. I haven't heard much about the books but I couldn't pass up the deal.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling
I'll never leave these books despite the fact that I had to sneak into the kids section to grab them...

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Again, another book Sasha has been raving about. I have heard of the tv series but since I heard there were a ton of books, I bought some! I asked a friend, whom I made at a bookstore coffee place because I was holding a book she liked, and she said the sex scenes take up most of the story so I'm not too psyched about that because smut is NOT my forte.

Paper Towns by John Green
I should just start a shelf that displays books I must read before I watch the movie...Which is actually very hard for me considering I love off fictional characters emotions and facial expressions (i.e. Stiles Stilinski and Dorian Havilliard)

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
I've had the first three books of this series in my Kindle archive since the movie came out (starring the soon-to-be Jace in the new Shadowhunters tv show!). I just haven't found the time or motivation to commit to them!

The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski
I haven't heard too much on this book but I saw edits on tumblr and I thought I'd check it out? No clue what it's about, no clue if ill like it but it's ok!

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Also another one of those books I saw edits of and thought looked cool. I'm excited to throw myself in to it anyway!

I should really check myself before I start overworking my brain in YA novels....

Film Saturday???

For the past two weeks, I have kept together a list of the films I've watched/rewatched/have been dying to watch. I do not have gifs or photos for you to reconcile with but hey, here it is?

06.05.15 - 06.20.15
Pacific Rim
My brother told me that we'd be drift compatible and I think that's beautiful.

Ask Me Anything
The little girl in this story is a wreck and I'm sorry for anyone who does this kind of stuff on the regular and does not get called out on it. Do not watch this movie with a parent or grandparent of any sort because your just throwing yourself under a bus. But also Britt Robertson is one of my all time favs (not just because her and Dylan Obrien were a thing ok).

Your Highness
I used to smoke a lot of pot and think this stuff was funny. My family still thinks it is so I enjoy them and I watching it in a group effort.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
These movies are etched into my skin and burned into my brain. HP4EVR

Forrest Gump
JENNAY I actually don't know how I feel about this movie but its popular and I know every line? I've just seen it alot randomly.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring
My life is in the hands of young Frodo and co. and I do not wish to part from them ever. I am precious and so is this movie.

From Justin to Kelly

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2
I told you these movies don't escape that easily...

Jurassic World
The main character wore heels and a white dress the whole time, she's one tough cookie and I love her. Also, Chris Pratt is my dear child that I hold close in case of emergency meltdowns. He has battle raptors BATTLE RAPTORS! I'm obsessed.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
I read half of this book before the movie and I'm not sure I'm motivated to read the rest? Oh but I'll finish it anyway lol lol

So that's it for my sarcastic take on my Film Fridays. I dislike how this post turned out but I love lists, they make me feel in charge. Have fun watching! x Nat

My Top Albums

Alot of the time if someone asks my favorite artist or genre or song, I can't answer that. Its not that I couldn't narrow it down to at least two but it's because I fall for music slow and fast and it just resonates in me until I can't stop thinking of that particular artist or song or album. Its a complicated system in my brain that I can't explain so I just keep making playlists instead :)

Here are some albums that I really love and will probably love forever:

Twilight Saga: New Moon Soundtrack
When I was going through a rough time due to depression and anxiety, I watched movies and read books most of the time. I could transport myself far from my actual problems and it made me better and happier to know that authors and their characters knew how I felt. Bella in New Moon becomes very sad in the film so the soundtrack have a sort of melancholy tone but it only reminds me that things are better now :) I'm really happy when I listen to it these days!

Rumors Deluxe
Who doesn't love some good ole classic rock? Or Stevie? Being Northern Minnesota born and raised has positively graced my classic rock love with bands such as Fleetwood and Kansas and Boston and ACDC. I can honestly listen to this album and get the feeling of falling asleep in the backseat of a car as a child. The second feeling is partying around bonfires in the middle of nowhere? Love it either way.

This is my go to sleep album and will never not be. When I moved to a big city I the middle of summer, all I had was the internet. There, I fell for British anything and everything. Ed Sheeran just happened to be there for me when no one else was? I have since seen him twice in concert (once on a balcony lip and once elbowing mums and kids to get to third row).

Oracular Spectacular
Can I just tell you how MGMT makes me feel? First off, Andrew Vanwyngarden. Second of all, mad beats and the ever present summer vibe. Ok check it out.

the 1975 Deluxe
I actually have this album in vinyl, cd, and digital formats...I have spent more money (shows, merch, travel, etc.) the 1975 than on any other artist INCLUDING the ever expensive One Direction. Ok that is actually saying something!

If you ever have any questions about my taste in music or artists, just ask! Thanks for checking this spot out x Nat

Etsy, You Betsy

Yes, I am a middle aged soccer dad of 2.5 kids with half a comb over...Sans the dad joke, I want to share some rather interesting and beautiful Etsy shops I came across while looking at items I (sadly) have no need for but EVERY want.

This shop is wicked cute! I have a thing for simple rings and earrings and this shop even has semiprecious stones and moons and stars. I'm drooling? Check it out!

What drew me to this shop was the raw crystals but as soon as I clicked through, I fell even more in love! There's not only crystals as necklace but raw turquoise rings and opal set in hand hammered metals. Everything is delightful in shiny!

Owning alot of home goods creates the illusion of having your shit together and pale ceramics are just killer. Mugs are a necessity in my life so when I saw the antler handled cup, I had to check out the rest of the shop. Soap dishes and cute painted bowls and insanely pretty wall art are also available!

I need to get my hands on some new tarot cards and not only does this shop have the ones I am DYING for, but there are also other cool looking decks. I understand that not alot of people believe in tarot or psychics or Wicca but "the other" is such an amazing concept to me that I just have to dive in and check it out for myself. If you're into tarot and readings, click the link.

See ya soon! More Etsy rummaging to do!

TBR: June 2015

Recently I moved to a new apartment. And with that, I packed away ALL of my books. I have nearly 50 books (not counting the ones on my Kindle) and I fit all of them into two carry on sized suitcases that still remain packed away in the back of my new closet (oops). NEVER FEAR! I have been purchasing more books so my everpresent need for intellectual knickknacks is being fed. I currently have books to be read next to my bed, on my dresser, on and in my desk and on the floor near my door. I don't mess about with books, pals!

I haven't been keeping up with books and series that I have genuinely loved for years and it's making me a bit upset. So I am starting a TBR or "to be read" at the beginning of each month to motivate and keep myself on some sort of schedule. Here it goes!

1. Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater
I actually started this book at the end of May after I finished the second book in the series and just COULDN'T live without the third. I am already half of the way through it and I'm soooo keen to see what happens with the interesting raven boys and odd Blue! I can relate to some of the characters despite the psychic/magic vibe going on and the deep, spiritual friendships just make everything seem that real. Maggie is actually one of my favorite authors and her first series, The Wolves of Mercy Falls (wow Nat, werewolves?), is what drew me in. I do keep checking tumblr for edits and photos relating to this series but I think I'm just setting myself up for spoilers at this point...PLEASE READ THIS SERIES AND TELL ME ALL ABOUT IT AND TELL ME YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTERS AND JUST LET ME LOVE THOSE WHO LOVE MAGGIE

2. Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick
I haven't read this series since 2012...Honestly, I barely remember what's going on since Crescendo, the third installment of the Hush, Hush series. I'm just gonna wing and stomp my way through this because I do remember my love for the characters (distinctly the sassy, amazing Nora) and setting (distinctly the insane rain of Maine) so, I mean, I've got this! Also, there are angels and half angels and forbidden/hidden love and strange sibling rivalries and everything exciting I wish my life was?

3. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling
Yeah, I'm reverting back to the beginning of my lifetime. My mother actually read the books to me and my brothers when we were younger so I don't actually remember much of the first books. I'm actually so excited to restart this series that I bought Chamber of Secrets at the same time just in case ;)

4. Allegiant by Veronica Roth
Speaking of, I actually saw Insurgent a few weeks ago and it was insane! Great movies but I've been stuck on the third book for a few months now because someone let slip the nature of the ending of the story...SPOILERS ARE NOT WELCOME TO MY DELICATE AND FRAGILE STATE OF MIND!!!? If you haven't read these popular books yet, please do.

I'm keeping this list short and gauging my reading times so that I can read more in future months. I do hope to get through these books and hopefully get onto The Hobbit (again lol), The Maze Runner (I've banned myself from watching the film until I actually read it...), The Mara Dyer Trilogy, Throne of Glass series, Me and Earl and The Dying Girl, Paper Towns, The Lunar Chronicles and plenty more! I'm dying to read!

More Videos I Just Can't Get Over

The first time I heard this song, I fell in love. I've recently started listening to Kanye more and now tat Rihanna has collaborated with him and Paul, I'm that much more ecstatic. I love that artists are developing into different genres and becoming well rounded. It's fascinating.

Star Wars: The Fore Awakens

I honestly thought this was a joke at first. New Star Wars movie?? WHAT? I'm so stoked I can't even explain it.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

I know I'm quite honestly the biggest geek but...The twins are in this one, a new villain, more ScarJo. I'm speechless. This film also looks more dark and intense than the last one.

Rainbow Sponge Lady

I cannot get over this lady. I'm not sure if she's on drugs or if she's inhaled too many fumes but she's exciting. Her nails are also insanely great. I don't think she realizes how many innuendos happened but it's the greatest.

Gilbert Gottfried Reads Fifty Shades of Grey

I'm crying. I absolutely detest 50 Shades but this is the pinnacle moment in the book's history.

Medieval Land Fun-Time World

Even if you're not a GoT fan, please witness the greatness that is bad lip reading. I won't get over this ever.

Book List // 1

I've recently cut down on reading and researching new books and authors. I'd like to blame not having time but I genuinely have time, I just haven't found any books that I deem age appropriate as I grow up. In high school, I read ANY teen novel I could get my hands on that displaced me from the normal world I live in (i.e. twilight..yeah, I know). But as I get older, I realize that I should broaden my horizons and read more adult books (sans fifty shade, please). It sounds stupid but if I'm reading a book I really like and it happens to be a YA novel, people still see you as a child. I suppose I should just get over it, tell others to shove it and read whatever the hell I want but there will always be that tiny voice in the back of my head telling me to pick up Wuthering Heights and get over my obsession with werewolves...Some day that time will come. But for now, here's my adventures into the likes of literature and novels:
It by Alexa Chung
I finished this book in one sitting and I believe I could do it over and over until my book is decrepit. If you don't know who the wonderful Alexa is, I'm sorry. She's stylish, hectic, a self-proclaimed groupie, and absolutely cool. This book is basically a lifestyle blog in a tiny book and it's insane. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves style, music, films and just pure British antics in general.

It's Kind Of A Funny Story by Ned Vizzini

I haven't actually finished this book yet...I bought it last summer and I've just never picked it up. I also watched the movie while halfway through the book so I kind of lost all motivation. Honestly, it's alright. The main character is hard for me to relate to because he's a bit more self deprecating than I've ever been despite actually going through the same problems he is. This book is about depression and learning how to deal with it, not just alone either. I love the idea of this book but my mental cogs are just a bit different than Craig's. Maybe I'm exactly like Craig and I just don't want to realize it or deal with it? Who knows, but I know I like this book.

7 Things That Made Me Happy This Week // 2

01.25.15 - 01.31.15

Sunday: Ice Cream with L
The only money she'd had for the past weeks was a Coldstone Creamery gift card and she used it on me? Whatta doll!

Monday: Family time!
My mum called me at work and was freaking aunt went into labor! My family and I don't really keep in touch with our distant relatives except my aunt. The little bundle of joy's name is Andrew and he is such a little wittle roundie :)

Tuesday: An Early Night's Rest
Who even likes getting up at 5am?? Not me. Tuesday I crawled into bed at a measly 7pm and thoroughly had a blast listening to slow music until I fell asleep.

Wednesday: Cruisin'
L had a birthday dinner that I couldn't make it to but we ended up driving around for hours looking for something a newly turned 18 year old could do in our small city. Turns out, nothing is really open past 11pm but hey, cruising and listening to the 1975 is all we could ask for.

Thursday: Brotherly Love
I've always grown up with just boys, two older, two younger brothers. And I guess it's why I don't care much for girly things and dress to climb trees everyday...That's also another reason I still spend a lot of time with my two younger brothers. We play video games and watch movies and reblog each other's stupid meme jokes. I forget time when I hang out with my brothers and I wouldn't change that, ever.

Friday: My Duvet
I know I say this a lot, but this blanket is my life. I find myself in bed a lot ad I should really check to see if it's a serious problem or just me being lazy? But I'm glad I have such a comfortable nest and place to call my own!

Saturday: Roomie Donuts
M and I went to get our rent sorted out and had to go to the grocery store. So, of course, we swung through the bakery and grabbed a few (or four) each ;)

Not much happened this week as I had to get up super early for work and then had a few (most needed) days off. My posts are becoming a bit repetitive in boring in my mind so I'll try to switch it up!

Film Friday // 2

01.23.15 - 01.29.15

The Fault In Our Stars 2014

Pain demands to be felt and I feel it every single time I watch this film...The first time I saw it was in theaters with M and, well, I profusely leaked out of my eyes and wore sunglasses to hide the puffiness from the theater employees. By far one of my favorite stories and films of 2014.
Uptown Girls 2003

This film used to be one of the only DVDs I owned when I first got a tv in my room (whoa, back in 7th grade?). So, of course, I watched it and only it to sleep. I haven't actually seen in since then but I never realized how short it is! I absolutely wish it was loner so I could see more of my fav B-Murphs. Ultimately, one of my favorite actors and movies!
Maleficent 2014

Honestly, one of my favorite Disney reworks in a while. Angelina has always been one of my favorites and her as Maleficent is just simply outstanding, magnetic! I always found myself sympathizing with her and putting down other characters I never would've. I've been putting off watching this movie because I thought that I would eventually dislike Angie the Great but it only made me love her incredibly more! Elle Fanning did wonderful as Aurora but Maleficent always stole the show, along with Diaval (also one of my favorite characters). The thing that got me hooked right away was the visuals and amazing CG. I'm a stickler for a good visuals and  killer concept art. Here's some that I found:

A Few Videos I Just Can't Keep To Myself

The first video I MUST help others witness is of a Japanese girls, Reika Ozeki's, vines. My brother texted me this Youtube link out of nowhere (as does the rest of my family) and I can't stop laughing. Her tones of her voice and her range are making me cackle so hard that I'm scaring M's dog. I can't deal with her but I need to witness more?

The next video is controversial...The Sia video featuring Shia LaBeouf & Maddie Ziegler. I mean, I don't want to offend pople but this video is insanely emotional. That little girl can dance and if it was anyone else but a famous man (who recently came out as having been raped) and a famous young girl, it wouldn't have been made into a "scandal". Great song, great video and I can totally see what the dance is supposed to portray.

The third video is a movie trailer I'm INCREDIBLY stoked for. You have no clue...Pan. Apparently people were upset about Rooney Mara playing Tiger Lily but, hey, I'm Native American and I'm fine with it? They're called actors for a reason, they act? Also, Garrett Hedlund is one of my favorite actors. I also just realized he looks like my friend's boyfriend...huh. I'm honestly, I just, I cannot seem to catch my breath. Peter Pan is one of my favorite stories and it's just wow. Also, Cara and Hook and Blackbeard and the fact that they start at the beginning of both Pan AND Hook. I'm in awe.

Also, I've been heavily crushing on everyone over at BuzzfeedVideo and this is classier than I could ever be.

And last, but not least...

No one will ever understand my love for Miles Teller and the fact that he's in a new Marvel movie is going to put me into the hospital. I am so excited for this movie. It looks better than the earlier films and it's also a breath of fresh air from the Avengers. Can't wait!

Thanks for putting up with me bouncing off the walls

Things I Learned While Keeping a Journal

1. People Don't Respect Long Hand Anymore (But oh they like to judge)
"Oh she's writing love letters!" Listen, I understand that writing long hand in the center of dozens of people on their phones or making rude remarks may seem weird but...Oh, no wait. It's not.

2. I'm Not For Censoring Myself
If I want to write down the terribly embarrassing details of a dream I had before I forget it, I simply cannot with one of my bosses sitting a mere 7 inches away from me. Also, not swearing out loud is hard enough, what do you think my journals sound like? I'm a sailor.

3. It's Hard To Gauge How Much Is Needed
Time and space. Sometime, I plan to write only a few lines or to just vent a bit about my day...but then it turns into the next Declaration of Independence and an hour and forty-seven minutes later, I'm relieving my John Hancock at the bottom of page six hundred and thirty two. It's hard to stop yourself when your on a roll, but why should we? Sure there's the time thing but I guess I'll just have to learn how to make a bulleted list and a couple engaging topics.

4. Time By Myself Is OK
I used to get really upset being alone. I thought because someone wasn't talking to me at that moment, I probably wasn't worth their company anyway. But then I realized that I don't have to impress anyone else but myself. It was then I started to be more creative with my journaling. Light watercolor paintings, sharpie drawings, even pressed flowers remain in my past journals and I just continue on creating by myself and happy.

5. My Handwriting Is Terrible
It's been a few years since I was forced to write long hand everyday for eight hours a day...Okay, only two years but honestly, I have no idea where my penmanship went. It's like I fell back into kindergarten...without. the. naps.

Saturday Off

Friday, I pressed my snooze button so often that I nearly ran late. 6:41 AM and I still didn't have my coat on nor my second shoe. It was "Twin Day" at work and since M and I work together, we'd picked out our conjoining outfits the night before...The only hitch? My hair.
In the bleak, grey morning light coming through the balcony door, I quickly threw my catastrophe of a mane into a terrible milkmaid style with three pins holding the bomb together. Little did I know, this hairstyle would stay intact through the weekend's baths, sleepy tossing and turning, silly crafts and even cleaning.

Happy Saturday, it is!

Today is the first day in the past week that I've not had to get up at 5:54 AM. I sat in bed until the sun went down, though you couldn't tell due to the overcast. I had a leftover donut from the day before and tea from a huge box that I received from A for Christmas. I also sat around and watched a few films...look out for my post on Friday!

7 Things That Made Me Happy This Week // 1

I'm starting this new weekly post that will be about the things I'm grateful for or made me happy in the previous week. Everyday, I must come up with something in that day that had impacted me positively whether it's food, a friend, a stupid poem or a great album, I need to start seeing the positive things in life. And how better than writing it down in a blog post? I got this post idea from Cider With Rosie, one of my favorite blogs and people!

Sunday: Ewan McGregor
I don't know what it is about that deep Scottish accent and plethora of hairstyles but this man will always be my number one. I think it was last week or the week before when I started watching the prequel Star Wars trilogy again but I came to realize how many movies Ewan was in that I actually really loved. I don't know how many times I've seen Moulin Rouge but it's enough to be insane, I'm sure. The reason Mr. McGregor made me happy this week is because I spent a day in bed watching his movies and being completely content with a cup of tea and a few snacks. If you wanted to see how I liked Big Fish and Trainspotting check out my last blog post!

Monday: Mum's Cooking
Mum made BBQ and red skin potatoes and mixed vegetables when I came over for dinner and it was absolutely amazing. I always forget how much I adore my mother for realizing when I need food and when my bank account is so low that I need to sneak in and snack on her fridge. Sometimes, I just stroll in and start whispering "snacks" around the door frames and walls until someone comes out and finds/brings me a cookie or something chocolaty...Yes, I understand I'm a giant child.

Tuesday: Horror Movies!

I can't just ignore the big horror category on Netflix. Everyday it stares me in the eyes, basically flashing and begging for me to click with my ever hovering mouse or switch of the handheld remote control of my PS3...Though, M and A (my roommates) actually don't watch them that often and we share a single small television, I managed to get through a few this Tuesday and I'm planning to watch more. Zombies have never been my thing but all other horror movies? Sign me up.

Wednesday: Washing Laundry
No, but literally, I've been meaning to wash clothes for an incessant amount of time and just now getting to them is possibly the best feeling ever. Especially when certain sweatshirts with the certain hood that fits perfectly around my head get out of the ultra heated dryer...W O W

Thursday: Dirty Chai
I got let out of work early but that didn't stop me from getting a Chai tea latte with a splash of espresso. I got so much done this day in terms of home and online clutter (247 emails, really!?) I'm a caffeine addict and it's very apparent via my bank account. But this day, it was worth it :)

Friday: Shoppin'
What can I say? It's pay day and a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. The blog post on my purchased (and gifted) items is here.

Saturday: This Donut Thing

I don't know, it was pretty rad. Saturday was pretty cool, all and all to be fair.

Recent Purchases // 1.23.15

I recently received a few things from my mum and purchased a few things and I wanted to show you them because THEY LOOK SO NICE! Here they are:

i. Free People Wanderer Mini Dress
 (or "tunic" on me)

(genuinely had no clue this was a maternity sweater???)

I thoroughly enjoyed taking these photos (even if it was a quick 20 minutes). I use a tiny point and shoot, a Sony DSC-W710 but turned out better than I thought they would! I think the difficult part was the background as mine is black AND white, it's hard to figure placement. I don't like to splurge or brag and I don't spend money that often but I just figured "hey why not take pretty pictures of these pretty things??". I want to thank M for the cute hanger prop :)
